Hurricane Preparedness

As Hurricane Irene approaches, it helps to be prepared. According to FEMA, hurricane hazards can present as the following:

Hurricane hazards come in many forms: lightning, tornadoes, flooding, storm surge, high winds, even landslides or mudslides can be triggered in mountainous regions.  Look carefully at the safety actions associated with each type of hurricane hazard and prepare your family disaster plan accordingly. But remember this is only a guide. The first and most important thing anyone should do when facing a hurricane threat is to use common sense.

FEMA recommends following several steps to stay safe and be prepared during a hurricane. Their ready.gov site in an excellent resource for preparing for many different types of events. (They also have a great plan for earthquakes!)

To stay informed about hurricane conditions, The National Hurricane Center at The National Weather Service is a great resource. Here is the information for Hurricane Irene. Since flooding is a major problem in the surrounding areas, The National Weather Service is also a great resource for possible flooding in Manville and Bound Brook.
